The World Association for the History of Animal Health (WAHAH), formerly known as the World Association for the History of Veterinary Medicine (WAHVM) until 2024, actively encourages, promotes, and coordinates research and education in the expansive field of animal health history. The primary activity of WAHAH is the organization of its biennial international congress, bringing together scholars and practitioners from diverse disciplines and regions.
The renaming from WAHVM to WAHAH reflects a broader academic recognition that the history of animal health is inherently interdisciplinary. Historically, this field has benefitted from insights and contributions across numerous disciplines, including agricultural sciences, human medicine, biology, chemistry, physics, ethology, ethics, philosophy, and economics. Additionally, fields traditionally considered more distant, such as linguistics, archaeology, law, meteorology, geophysics, astronomy, and even astrology, have significantly influenced the understanding and practices related to animal health.
Through this expanded scope, WAHAH aims to be more inclusive and accessible to researchers from these varied academic disciplines, fostering richer discussions, diverse perspectives, and increased interdisciplinary collaboration at our congresses and beyond.
